According to Gordon Walton during a Games Radar interview Bioware’s aim is to make a game that is accessible to the Star Wars fan, and the BioWare fan. Because really BioWare is a company that is about making a great RPG experience, not about making games for a hardcore MMO audience.

How much gameplay can I expect from Star Wars: The Old Republic?
Endless. Being a massively multiplayer game when you reach max level you can join a guild, explore the rest of the universe, do more side quests or participate in player vs player (PvP). The options are limitless. There will be over 200 hours of gameplay for each character when the game is released.

How many hours of grinding will I need to reach max level?
They want to reduce the grind – removing the tedious fetch 10 and kill 20 quests that plague the genre – and tie everything into their story. They want to introduce genuine consequence, giving parties of players the kind of moral choices their single-player games have become famous for.

How does my character gain experience?
You will gain experience (EXP) from killing the various opponents you face. You will also gain experience for completing quests.

Will I be able to heal myself?
According to a Comic-Con interview, All classes should get an 'Out of Combat Healing ability', maybe something as simple as a medipack. The goal is to have very little downtime while playing the game.

If I die in Star Wars: The Old Republic do I need to start a new character?
There will be no permanent death in Star Wars: The Old Republic. We still have no details how death will be handled, but know that we will have the ability to resurrect.

How many story elements are present in Star Wars: The Old Republic?
There will be three separate story elements told within Star Wars: The Old Republic. You be guided through a Personal, Class and Galactic storyline as you play.

Can I group with players from another class?
Star Wars: The Old Republic will feature mixed party quests. If a Smuggler and Jedi group and go to do the Smugglers quest line, there will be quests for the Jedi to do while helping Smuggler. This will happen for all classes so that players will always have some quests to work on while assisting others.

Does my story ever end?
Yes, you will eventually complete your players three quest lines (Personal, Class and Galactic). More quests and story line will be added with later content patches.
